Silicon is important for insulation. You can find it underground. It's as rare as Iron. But open your eyes! It's like normal stone.

It's a powerful material. You can find it in the End.

You can find it on the Mars. It's like Emerald. No use, but you can trade with Aliens (soon).

Strongest Material. You need an Iron Block and a Scrap to combine in Smeltery. You will get 1 Steel. (Recipe)

Can find in Nether. It's Common.

Strongest Crystal material. You can make Strong Glass of it and that glass can be used for a lot of things :D
